How many of you have been sucked into the positive thinking equals positive cash flow, or I should say how many of you have been disappointed by that over and over? Well, not to let the air out of your sails or burst your bubble, I am going to say the "emperor has no clothes" and just was jurious who/how many of you agree with what I am about to say...
and remember, this is a civil discussion, and I just want to stimulate conversation, so please do respond, with your opinions...

I guess what I am trying to say is I really am pragmatic, and I do believe sometimes it takes elbow grease, and not just wishful thinking.

I have been in and out of many mlm's my entire life, and I can honestly say, I never go into them with the belief "This will make me rich" obviously if it did, then people would not be clawing at you to become their downline.

My thought is, take on a product that is cutting edge, appeals to a broad market, and would be something that I would sell my mother, without trying to make her become a downline as well.

Also challenge those who claw at my clothes over and over trying to convince me they are getting rich off of their product and you can too, only if you become their downline.

I like to tell people that tell me, "you will be wealthy like me!," "well, if it is such a solid product, then it doesnt matter who I become a downline to, because you are already rolling in the bucks without me signing on with you"
sounds nasty I know, but I believe in selling first and then if someone asks me about becoming a distributor, then thats a solid lead.

How many of you have been told by companies to give an appearance of success, to draw in others?
I bet allot.
Well, I test a product and ask many many questions before I even buy it first, and then I may invest in distributorship.
I also have a personal policy, never ask family and friends to buy from you and never ever ask them to become a downline from you...
I know I know it goes against what every mlm training tape tells you, but the numbers speak for themselves.
Solid Product= solid sales= a solid downline lead.
And no pressures. I am finding that people who pressure me to sell, are telling me the product isnt any good, so just become a distributor and become rich like them.

like I said..if they are so rich, they dont need me to sign on!

Overall, I agree with the above points. I believe that any kind of business--mlm or otherwise will rise or fall on the quality of the product or service rendered. However, I've never understood the "don't sell to family and friends" argument. That's only ever used in terms of mlm businesses.

Anybody who starts a traditional business is going to first tell their family and friends about it and request their patronage. "Come to my barbershop/pet grooming service/restaurant/etc." And if the quality of the product or service is good, friends and family will be repeat customers, and help spread the word. In the brick and mortar traditional business world, this isn't viewed as "taking advantage" of anybody. It is a perplexing contradiction.
How do you expect anyone to respond to such honesty? Oh the cynicism! It's well placed if you ask me.

Somewhere in the website, perhaps one of my blogs I remember saying if your money is dependent other people, then you're in for a rude awakening.

I'm with a company that uses an MLM business model. Personally, I don't really like the MLM part. What I like is the service. I also like the fact that I don't need a downline an upline or a sideline to make money.

The advantages of being able to call an attorney about any issue cannot be overestimated. And the cost is so minimal, the value is almost absurd. I have so many referrals I can hardly keep up with the volume. If someone wants to see the opportunity, great! If not, that's O.K. too. I don't actively recruit.

Oh by the way, my mother has a membership. So does my daughter, my brother and my financial planner. The business is not for everyone but everyone should have a lawyer.

Thanks Dreamweaver, yes, if you do have to rely on people to make your money for you, you will be disappointed...I guess I do have to clarify for those who may misunderstand my point about not selling to family and friends, I should qualify it with, "dont take advantage of your family and friends feelings of obligation to buy from you, just to help you out"

just as if I owned a resturant or gas station, I know my mother would buy or eat at my business because I am her daughter, not that I am the cheapest of gas or that my food is to die for and I am the best thing since sliced bread. And my friends may buy the obligatory burger or gallon of gas to help me out, but still they have their favorites, and I may not be one of them because of the product or price. But friendship and being related does add a feeling of obligation. And that is taking advantage of them and their niceness..

also when it comes to asking friends or family to become a downline for you...the feeling of "if it helps you" again is going to come through. thats why I have made it my own policy to not force myself on my family and friends and say.."come on, get rich with me"...if they want to or if they have questions, then I will answer them.

same goes for if they want to buy from you...then its great, I give them a catalog and if they want to buy, sounds good, but I won't ever give family and friends a false advertisement by saying " buy from me and not from anyone else" its their choice...not mine.

Dont get me wrong..
I think the MLM model is great for someone who would like to take the guess work out of things like customer service, legal aid, product design and marketing, in fact its like buying a turnkey that has everything you need. I would not change that design at all. And thats why I enjoy mine, it has taken the guess work out of the product design, setup and promotion.

anyway, thats the points I wanted to clarify, not to mention, how many people have had ruined relationships with family and friends over certain MLM's, when they try to take over the family dinner or party with discussions about their new "business" and how their family and friends should join on and come aboard and become wealthy just like them..I think lots of people have broken relations with families over MLM discussions,....
I agree with you. I believe that when I started doing MLM I wanted to join a company for there products. They had to be Awesome not just great but awesome they had to blow my mind away. I want everyone that I run into that ask about my company I would like for them to try the product first because if they don't like it what's the point of selling it. You only make money when products move. if they Suck they don't move. So you better hope that you know what the company is talking about before you do anything. I didn't want to join another company without having my lawyer look into it. Because I was stuiped and Fell for that one before. YOU CAN MAKE MONEY... Well if your heart's not your not going to make it. I say "Success depends on having common sense and a great attitude!!!!!"

I think that a positive attitude and a successful appearance is a benefit to anyone in sales/marketing. Maybe I'm old school? Everyone has a selling method, sometimes referred to as a hard or soft sell, and both can be effective, it's a matter of what's best for you. It's important that your comfortable with you sales pitch. One person method may not work for another. I have a friend that can out sell me any day of the week, yet I find his presentation at times overbearing. Success does speak for it's self. I do believe "Honesty to be the best policy" for dishonesty will surely destroy you.
I agree. If the product is no good or way over priced why would you want to sell it to anybody. I just switched MLM companies just for that reason. I got into a new MLM company owned by a big real estate person that we all know. The products were good but priced about 2 to 3 times what they should have been priced at. a lot of people are going good with the company but after I signed up 6 people at $500 each I started second guessing the company. A food bar at $3.25 wholesale and retail at $6 each just too much now matter how good a product it was. All the other products were overpriced the same way.

I'm now with a MLM company that has great healthy coffee. Their regular blend coffee is lower in price then WalMarts lowest priced simular coffee. It's a win win and I feel good about getting people into this business. I now have a very positive outlook on MLM because of this.

I'm not going to tell you the name of the company but check my page out here at Home Based Business to find out more.
