Many MLM organizations provide tools to help their associates to promote their business. Most of the tools, however, are known to be "outdated." Leads, for instance, are the blood of any business, but leads are share all the time. A good marketer will understand what move their prospects; what make them cry, what make them laugh. Then, align the tone of your message accordingly. Don’t forget to design a communication strategy. Experimentation will be always part of the process. Don't be afraid to experiment, and allow a budget for that. Remember that expecting to win every time is unrealistic. Expect to fail and learn as much as possible during every step of the journey.

Lead with value and never lose heart.

You make valid and applicable points John. I have some experience in more than one MLM and am currently connected with three and have decided to stick with them for reasons that are self-explanatory when you see the products they offer. One of these has been part of my venture arsenal for more than twenty years. (Amsoil Inc. has been in the synthetic lubricant business for 38 years, www.lubedealer.com/hiebert) I believe one of the reasons is that its marketing tool kit is effective as it is applicable to the target market involved.
Hi John Paul

I have been involved in several companies for over 15 years. I have purchased my share of company sold sales aids over the years. Most of them were just another way for the company to get the last bucks from your pocket. Pretty but ineffective for the most part.

The company I am working with makes use of the most popular videos on Youtube to advertise your company. You select your key words or phrases and the company selects the videos according to those words. They place your 7-10 second advert in front of the video. Text for now but adding audio and video shortly.
We provide targeted video advertising in the virtual world of social media.

You can have a look at a short video to see more.

Good points John-Paul, most company tools just plain suck, because they explain little about the opportunity and just leave someone hanging. Reps should design their own stuff, even make their own Opt in page so it doesn't look like everyone Else's in the company. Plenty of sites on the web now that have templates to choose from and that makes it easy.
There are lots of great marketing tools but it depends on how you use them.

Some of the easy and effective tools are right here. Forum marketing. Post good content and be helpful to to others.

You can write helpful articles and e-books, use a sig file, use solo ads, pay per click if you know what you're doing. Press releases, and of course list building with your funded proposal marketing system.

Of course you should be prepared for offline marketing also by having an info package ready to go when you meet someone face to face. That approach works better for primary business since most people I meet don't know much about online marketing. Those people may be interested in having a home business but not do all the online stuff that goes with it.

You can make your own cd's and package it with a brochure of some kind. Don't discount offline marketing for your primary business. If it's a good primary business then the company may even provide you with offline marketing materials.

My primary business has lots of marketing materials for offline use as long as your follow their rules. Another way to market off line is to promote your events and live information overviews that are in your local area. If there isn't any, then you get to be the leader automatically and develop your team in your local market.

Talk to you soon!

Good points about off-line marketing Mark and don't forget the power of using Drop Cards as well. My favorite is the folded $100 dollar bill. Who wouldn't bend over to pick that up.
Enjoyed your article John-Paul. I agree many "old school" methods are outdated. For years outbound marketing was the way you developed leads. With the explosion of social media, many of us ( especially young entrepreneurs) are seeing that using all the tools available in today's world to create an "inbound or attraction" marketing campaign is far more efficient and reaches a much larger audience. Finding a balance of the two is vital. There still has to be "HIGH TOUCH" in a High Tech world, and the common mistake many make is to try to automate their leads by using auto-responders and other similar applications.People still want the personal touch as well, so develop leads online, then build relationships offline. Whether it's outbound or inbound there has to be value, as you mentioned in your closing. Personal branding is huge right now. To attract new business/leads today, and common phrase (or guideline) has become popular :
Like me, know me, trust me, and then we may do some business together ( or pay me).

Marketing tools of any kind, from any company are only as good as the person who uses them. I'm sure each MLM company has very useful tools. Some tools may be produced by the MLM company's licensed training and business support partners. In some cases you may have tools produced by both which you should look into.

The unique business model that MLM companies employ makes PEOPLE the ultimate marketing tool. It's imperative that you know your product, use your product, and know the target market it applies to. In my humble opinion, this is the best way to use any additional tools. Jouh-Paul hit on a key point when he said to "design a communication strategy." Once you understand what your customer's needs are, you can then use the additional tools to effectively formulate a sales/marketing strategy.

John-Paul,

I agree with your statements. It is unfortunate that many new business owners come in with unrealistic dreams of making money and living a luxurious life in 1 to 3 months or so.

In part, I blame the network marketing companies. One, for selling them the dream and not exposing the amount of work required. The second thing that many network marketing companies do not provide the right trainings that will ultimately help many new members with their businesses.

Talking to family, friends, strangers is not something I would suggest one do because this sets up new business owners to deal with a lot of rejection. Rejection is tough for experienced business owners and especially for newbies. Often the end result is discouragement, which leads to many quitting.

What makes this so bad is that many companies realize this. This is how they weed people out. Eliminate the ones who don't have the drive and keep the ones who do. The ones that remain are the ones who actually make mlm companies a lot of money. Thus, no loss on their part; just on the individuals who join them.

Building a business is a process. The more you grow, the more your business will grow. Therefore, it is best to invest in yourself by getting the knowledge and skills you need to create success within you and ultimately, within you business.

Thank you for letting me share...

Lawren
