Desperately need to promote my website and increase traffic

I am looking for some really useful advice in how to promote my site and increase traffic(in laymans terms please!!)
The site has been up and running for some time. My web designer and I have incorported keywords, a blog and title and category changes within the site which helps a little. The traffic needs to be at least ten times more than what it is now. I am hoping that if i can remedy the situation with the traffic etc that my sales will increase as a result.
I have very little time to spend on all of this as i am running this business alone but realise that it is a major priority so i need to put some things into place now! I currently do adwords but really don't spend very much money on it or time looking at it. Ideally i would like to initially put into place free and low budget ways of promoting the site however, i would like to know about as many ways as possible so that i can look at which ones really would be suitable and how much i really need to be spending in the medium - long term.
I run a successful Ebay store with recieves approx. 10 times as much traffic through it. However, as we know Ebay is a marketing engine in itself. I do not work on bringing traffic into my shop as i get the majority through direct search through ebay and page views. FYI the product on the website and the ebay store are very different so the customers are not really the same.
So what i really want to know is:
How do i increase traffic?
How can i promote myself via social networking?
How do i get my products found through other shopping sites?
Are there any other things that i can do?
Is there someone that i could essentially get to do this for me? How much would it cost and who would be best?

Hi Samantha,
I know exactly how you feel. Starting something online is one thing, anyone can do that. It's getting it out there that is the hard part. You are starting off on the right foot with the social networking part.
Getting out there and finding forums appropriate to your products is the first step. Although HBBN is a good forum, unless your selling business products, I would stick with forums filled with people searching and talking about what it is your selling.
As far as getting products found through other sites back linking would be the best way to go. In getting the word out about your products, article marketing and ezine ads are also really successful.
If you don't know much about this stuff, or marketing in general, I highly suggest you check out these videos Get Paid With Maverick
They are intensive training tutorials on marketing techniques that explains in detail how to social network, back link, keyword mastery techniques, and a lot more that I could explain, but this message would be even longer than it already is. I'm not just trying to push this as an affiliate, who's never seen the information, I am actually in the club myself, used his techniques and it brought my primary business to the next level.
I honestly think someone in your position would highly benefit from them. They were designed to train people beginner to advance on how to market successfully. Check them out if you'd like.

First off, knowledge is key. Without knowledge, nothing can be done. As Elise wrote to you, you should find some way to gain that knowledge if you don't already have it.

I think www.bizadsplash.com would be perfect for your situation! Not too long ago, I was in the same boat. One thing you need to do is get trained and educated in generating traffic for your site, there is certain marketing strategies and I suggest you use 2 and stick with them.

Hi Samantha,
The key to what you're trying to do is a funded proposal system. In case you don't know what that is, it's a way to pay for the marketing of your primary business through the promotion of affiliate products, in an easy to use format. There are three things that you must do:
1. Attract people to you by helping them build their own business
2. Build your own list, so that you harness the power of the marketing you're doing
3. Market to that list
Unless you have all day long to do this, a funded proposal (one stop shop) system is probably the way to go.
