There's never a right place to advertise because forum administrators or other administrators are in a hurry to name companies as spammers before they've had a chance to explain their point.

You are right that does steal the best part of the ad. I tried Header Ads about a year ago, I don't know why I stopped using them. I got really busy. I might pick them back up if I can find the information. My computer crashed about a year ago and I lost a lot of information. If I can't find it, I will sign up again under you.
If you are in need of some FREE links you may want to take a look at this site, I started about 2 days ago and it is legit for a change. Go down to about the middle of the page for the FREE link, one way links, and backlinks. It is working for me, my Alexa rank has gone up since I starting using the service. It jumped about 20 or 22 points. Doesn't sound like a lot but for me that is ok. If you know of something better I am all ears!!
