Man that's a tough question because it would take a few pages to fill out. From my experience, network marketers need to learn marketing and entrepreneuralism. I think many Leaders in MLM want their downlines to be (pardon the pun) ignorant when it comes to business. They want their downline to be like little robots and duplicate, duplicate, duplicate.
In my opinion this is stupid! We need to teach creativity. Creativity leads to innovation, new ideas, and big money!
Every prospect that joins my team has certain innate gifts and talents. They need to leverage those gifts in their marketing. The most benefical skills you can have in online marketing are your networking abilities (Social media marketing, video marketing), copywriting, writing (Article marketing, Blogging) and SEO.
The key to success is 'consistency' and focused effort. Learning which skills you have a talent for and then outsourcing the rest is a valuable tip. It is impossible to be good at every skill so why try. Focus on being good at a few and then surround your business with leaders who can do the rest.

Permalink Reply by Jones G on May 4, 2011 at 1:23am I have discovered you need to have the right understanding if what network marketing is, and the best way to understand it is by looking at the words.
The word network comes before marketing for a good reason. It is the first thing you need to learn to do. If you don't learn how to do that then you will have no one to market to. So anyone one considering getting in this industry needs to join the industry and not an opportunity because an opportunity is only that and is useless unless you have people to introduce to it.
I talk these issues on my blog as well as provide tools to help start of right in this industry. Just go to jonesgore.com

Permalink Reply by Luigi Panarella on May 13, 2011 at 5:27pm Internet Marketing is very difficult to achieve and very hard to learn. When you have finally learned
something, you are about to find out that all you have learned is completely outdated after 6 months, and you need
to relearn new things again
For the majority of people that start any business on line have the misconception that as soon as they enter the industry, they will become instantaneous rich. And when they realize is not the case ,either they quit or jump to another opportunity.
Internet marketing requires more than just go out there and learn how to market.
It needs more then one person to accomplish any results. One person cannot accomplish what 10 people can do working together. One person cannot learn everything that 10 people can.
Have you ever seen a President of a big company do all the tasks by himself? So why we don't tread internet marketing in the same way?
Marketing on line is very complex and needs many tasks and is time consuming, and more people with different knowledge work together, the better the chance to succeed.
Before you start any marketing effort you need:
1. Create your own product, or locate the niche or the product that you want to market.
2. Study the product itself so you can be able to present and describe it to others.
3. Locate and research your market.
4. Acquire the proper tools and software. And yes it can cost some money, unless you JV with someone that has knowledge of it.
5. Create a website with your own domain. You need to brand yourself. Affiliate sites are not as effective.
6. Create many blogs and start driving traffic to themt with articles writing that explains your product and
the benefits of it.
7. Start to build your own list of customers. To do that you need to design capture pages, have access to an autorisponder, and some free and valuable information, software or gift to give out to your prospect in order to request from them their email address or phone.
8. Start networking with other by joining discussion groups that are eager and have a need of what you have to offer.
9. Prepare many different emails and different titles and join as many safelist as you can and start to sent out your
email with your capture page. Note: do not promote your affiliate link to these list as the conversion will be very poor.
10. start marketing.
As you have notice these are some of key components needed in internet marketing, but not the only once. And before you even start to do any marketing, there is a lot of serious work to do and a lot of time to be spent in preparation.
If you have the time and you want to learn and do everything by yourself give it a try. I have learned that is much easier to share tasks and get help from other people that are more efficient and knowledgeable than me on other subject. Therefore I can use my time at what I do best...marketing.

Writing down your goals and reading them out loud to yourself everyday will help you to visualize your goals.
Consistently make new contacts or reach out to prior contacts every day. Make a goal to start off with 2 contacts every day then up to 5 or 10 contacts every day. Consistency is key in any business.
Surround yourself with other successful business owners that you can learn from.
When networking it's best to first let someone get to know you, like you and trust you to effectively build a relationship with them to the point where they will come to you with questions or to ask for advice.
Those are some of the important things I've learned in my business.

I love what you said here about "Creativity"...
Most of the Uplines think that network marketing is a duplication business... It maybe true in some part but not all true.
We can not duplicate personality because we are not created equal. Every people has its own gift, talents and uniqueness.
That's were creativity will come in...
On the second thought duplication is true but duplication about the system not personality.

Permalink Reply by Edison Victorino on December 8, 2011 at 10:39pm I believe in 3 things to become successful in this industry.
1. mindset - have the right mindset, network marketing or internet marketing is not a get rich quick scheme like many marketers are saying. The reason why top earners are making huge amount of money of their 3 months in the company it's because they already have the contacts or down lines from there previous company. And second they already acquired the skill needed in the industry
2. right skills - skills pays for value, have the right skill.. attend trainings and seminar related to your industry.
3. right attitude - be patient in what you are doing, there is no such thing as overnight success. Motivate yourself more through education not on hype
There are some component that are needed in internal marketing.
1. Create a plan of action.
2. Social Networking.
3. Video Marketing.
