Video Marketing is definitely the way to go for me. At first I didn't enjoy getting in front of the camera. But I found out that people really respond to videos. So I was forced to learn. Windows Movie Maker is a free software that comes on all computers and is great for editing your videos before you upload them to youtube. You can even put credits so the last thing that the people see is your website. It works great

Still, above anything else the best form of marketing is WORD OF MOUTH. First of all, if a business owner can't get out and spread the word by taking every advantage to talk to people about the business then he just might not make it. Talk to people at the Chamber of Commerce, Leads clubs, The bank, while shopping, etc...

Look for opportunities to share your expertise and others will come to know that you are an expert. Then when they need an expert they just might call you.

I'm mostly using Google Ad Words right now. I've also purchased a list for my local area and sent out some nice post cards prompting people to register on my site for special discounts - got a decent response to that. Also, I keep a supply of postcards (there was an overrun) in my car and talk, talk, talk to anyone with a dog. (My site is www.YourDogsTreats.com). I even talked to a cop who pulled me over, because I noticed the "K-9" patch on his uniform! He was cool, let me off with a warning, and luckily didn't take it as a bribe because I didn't offer the postcard until after he let me off! I send out bi-monthly emails to everyone registered on my site to announce specials and encourage them to "tell a friend". I have seen my rankings and sales improve.

I have a mentor who has a clever answer to this type of question. He always says 'Everything works...and nothing doesn't.' Get the double meaning?

That said, the previous respondents all seem to have their own favorite methods, including the spammer who seems to favor...spam.

My suggestion is an integrated approach that builds layers of interrelated exposure. The main caution is to avoid information overload. Don't try to implement everything at one time, but take a step-by-step approach. A good place to learn not only what to do but where to start, is Terry Dean's blog, http://www.terrydean.org. I've learned a lot from the content there, and have been able to organize and actually move forward because of it.
