Madison Marathon Race Report

I am very pleased with the results of my race at the Madison Marathon Sunday May 24. With a time of 3:22:52, that gave me a 126 place overall and a 3rd in the 55-59 age group. The race was faster than last year, as my time would have placed me 1st in the age group and in the top 100 in the open race.

The morning was a cloudy one when I woke up at 4:45. Having laid out my singlet, shorts, socks, shoes and band aids (for chafing prevention) I slipped on my shorts and poured a cup of… Continue

Off Road Running

For some of you the time is now. For some of us we can only the snow and wait a few more months to get out and off road.

Train running is a different animal, cars can’t bite you. There is only you and the sound of nature (or something like that). Some trails are limestone, still others are just dirt paths.

Those of us who venture out into the step out and enjoy the feeling of nature, the hills, rocks, roots, softer running surfaces and switch backs.

Gender and Nutrition

Calories:

Men: A man logging 25 to 30 miles per week needs about 19 to 21 calories a pound of body whether or 3,200 calories a day for a 170 pound runner.

Women: A woman logging 25 to 30 miles a week needs about 17 to 19 calories per pound or 2,500 calories per day for a 140 pound runner.

Howard,
GREAT INFORMATION! As a fellow runner and marathoner, I appreciate the service you offer. I am not achieved the level of success you have with your titles but have been true to running for over 31 years and at 46 am training for my first sub 3:30 (25 April in Nashville at the CMM). Thanks to P90X I've been amazed at the dramatic changes in my running times. I took 2 years off on the recommendation of my doctor for depleting my adrenal gland and was given the go ahead to begin training again in August. I did P90X for 90 days and transitioned into running during my last 30 days. Since 13 December I've had some great training runs on the roads. I ran a 9 miler with hills in 1:14:50 last Saturday, 7 miles in 58:53 on Thursday and did 4 miles in 29:43 about an hour ago. Not bad considering they all felt easy and I had no partner to push me. Anyway, if you want to enhance your own efforts or share the program with your runners, I would highly recommend it.

A lot of folks are getting it after seeing the infomercials but if you or any of your runners want to get it at a discount (as a Beachbody Coach, I can distribute the products for less directly to my customers) on my site at www.beachbodycoach.com\run4ever . Anyway, I look forward to reading your blogs and visiting your site a lot. I live in Maryland but grew up in St. Louis in neigboring Missouri. In High School, I was a 2 miler and watched Craig Virgin's career with my 2 other running heroes, Bill Rogers and Frank Shorter. Craig's 2 mile track record was still in place while I was running that event in the late 70's. Have a Great Day!

Great profile page, but one thing is messing a video. Just stop bye to say hello and like to ask do you need a video for your business to show others that you are leader? And do use the power of videos and web 2.0 to drive free traffic and leads to your company site or your blogs? And do you know how to use web 2.0 in the right way?

If you like leave a comment or add me as a friend.

Hi, Howard,

How did you do in the marathon?

I hope you've been able to keep warm these last few days! :)

Hi Howard - I can certainly appreciate purity of product - it's frightening and maddening what some manufacturers market as health products. That Access Bar I referred to is used by a number of Olympic Athletes. Usana has some excellent products but our vitamin mineral supplement does offer more free radical protection - don't mean to make this sound like a commercial but I'm an avid researcher and like to share knowledge. What do you runners do in the winter?
At 8:26pm on January 16, 2009, Ellen Miles said…
Usana, aren't they affiliated or promoted by Peak Potentials, Harv Eker, Millionaire Mind guy? I went to a couple of their seminars - good stuff. Have you been? I'm with melaleuca - have been for almost 20 years as a customer, marketed for a while in 95 and am back at it. Love their stuff - have you tried our Access fat conversion bar? It really helps with stamina - cuts lactic acid build up. I'll give you one if you like - sell it to you! For fun I have CatVando, we work to help street cats through a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) getting them steralized, vaccinated and vetted then returning them to their home territory, usually in the care of their very loving caretakers. We get kitties sometimes and bring in local kids to help socialize them - don't take them unless they're very young - there are already so many kittens and cats without enough adoptors so if cats have good people to feed, water, shelter and monitor for vet care, they're happy cats and left in their home territory. I'm not a runner - ran 3 x, didn't like it but can appreciate the power and gifts it brings and congrats to you encouraging all those runners to be even better! Sounds like you hang with some good folks too.
