Do You Have a Home Based Business?
Yes
Company or Business Name:
Consignamania
Business Overview:
Why would you want to start a kids consignment sale? The reasons are as varied as the sale organizers themselves. Each sale organizer has a story to tell about how they became involved in the consignment sale industry. Most sale organizers are stay at home moms who, like myself, were looking for something to help with the family budget, yet allowed them to be home with the kids. Let's look at some of the reasons people choose to start a seasonal consignment sale.

Money. The most motivating factor is money. There is unlimited potential in earning income from a seasonal consignment sale. 30%-40% of the sales price of an item goes to the sale organizer. That's not bad income for a part time, part time job!

Flexibility. If you want to stay at home, and don't want the responsibility of a regular job, consignment sales are a great way to work around your family's schedules. Most of the work for prepping a sale can be done at any hour of any day and can fit around your work schedule, sleeping babies and doctors appointments.

Publicity and Awareness. If you have a community group or church and you want to attract people to your location or raise awareness of your group, hosting a consignment sale will certainly bring people to your location.

Seasonal consignment sales aren't limited to childrens consignment sales, however, childrens sales are the most prevalent. With the popularity of seasonal sales rising, there is a trend leaning towards adult and home decor consignment sales. Our sale manual works for all seasonal consignment sales, childrens, adults, home decor, etc, however, most of the examples in Consignamania™ are specifically pulled from childrens consignment sales.
Mission:
to help familes succeed in starting and profitting from a seasonal consignment sale
About Me (We read this!):
When I started my sale, there were over 60 established sales in the Middle Tennessee area within a 1 hour radius of Nashville. Each season, I participated in dozens of sales. As a stay at home mom, I felt the need to help contribute to the family budget. After participating in a few sales, I came up with a plan. That plan was reselling. I started visiting garage sales, picking up name brand children’s clothing and started reselling at the consignment sales. I did pretty well at this little endeavor, until I started figuring “if the sale has 150 consignors, and each consignor sells an average of $X amount of merchandise... 30% of that is…” and I was smacked in the face with the realization that this could very quickly add up to some serious cash that we could supplement our family budget with!

I thought “I can do this! I should do this! How hard can it be?” And that’s where my journey began. From that point on, every time I participated in a sale, I was taking notes on what I saw, what I liked and what I didn’t like. I sold some "quality merchandise" on Ebay and scraped together $2000 for my start up budget. Then I jumped right in with both feet, not really knowing what to do, what to expect, how to market my sale, or how to attract customers and shoppers. I was very fortunate to find very successful sale owners who were willing to mentor me. They helped fill in the gaps with information I didn't have. I want to do the same for you. The business plan I have developed is a combination of all of the wonderful advice I have been given as well as my own personal trial and errors. My hope is that you will be able to draw from my experience and be able to be a few steps ahead of the learning curve.

WHERE AM I NOW?

I have spent the last eight years building one of the most successful sales in the greater Middle Tennessee area and consulted on two dozen start up sales both in the US and Canada. My consignment sale (Once Around the Block Kids, located in Nashville, TN) is currently capped at 350 consignors (with a lengthy waiting list). I have chosen to cap the size of my sale because I am happy with the location and with the atmosphere of my sale. Somewhere down the road, I may choose to become a "mega sale" but for now - this is what is right for me. I have chosen to host two sales a year and then donate an entire sale to a non-profit of my choice.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP YOU?
My goal is to help you start your sale or to help you fill in some of the information that you may be missing in your current sale. I also offer boot camps which allow you to come work our event with one on one time with me, to help walk you through the actual sale time "process" from start to finish. From set up, to break down and everything that falls in between, you'll get to do it all first hand before you jump in. You'll know what to expect as you head into hosting your own sale.
