- About Me (We read this!):
- In 1976, Karen began a career in the radio and television broadcasting in Cincinnati, Ohio. During her career, she rose from Sales Assistant to General Sales Manager. In 1993, Karen left the broadcasting world and started her own home based advertising and marketing company. The same determination, knowledge and hard work that brought her success in broadcast advertising proved valuable in her role of entrepreneur. Karen’s focus was on helping small companies successfully compete in the marketplace using her affordable advertising and marketing services. At that time, it was very uncommon for a professional to work exclusively from home. Karen was also a single mom raising her son while developing her professional career. Stereotypes and prejudices were just some of the obstacles Karen faced and overcame. There were also recessions, economic turbulences and divorce. In 1998, she moved to California, bringing her existing business and adding new clients locally. In 2002, she incorporated her company as Lighthouse Creative Group, Inc.
Over the years, Karen was one of the pioneers in hosting on-line live business forum chats. She was host for AOL’s “About Work” forum. Her trademark chats were filled to capacity each and every session. Her faithful following are still among her close friends and business associates today. In addition to hosting, Karen helped train other hosts and on-line leaders. This forum was bought by iVillage, where Karen continued to work as a business chat host and on-line personal resource consultant. Karen was an expert on on-line social networking communities long before webinars, Facebook and MySpace existed.
This year, Karen’s long time dream of a Christian home based community has come to fruition. The Christian Home Based Business Forum is now a reality, on line, as well as in seminar form. Karen has owned and operated numerous businesses including retail stores, a coupon-clipper magazine and a full service advertising and marketing agency. Each of these businesses was conducted according to Karen’s deep Christian faith. The Christian Home Based Business Forum offers an opportunity for other Christians that own a home based business to join together in a community of support, aid, and Christian love. Karen is the Executive Director of CHBBF and operates it under Lighthouse Creative Group.
Karen has written training manuals and presented seminars on sales, marketing, advertising and starting and running a small business. Karen has also transformed her passion for telling stories and her love of children into children's books published through Synergybooks. She has also designed a line of scripture greeting cards and gift items using her photographs as inspiration.
Outside of her business life, Karen is a Deacon at her church, Director of Communications and business development for Marketplace Women. She is married to her husband Craig (who she met on-line and trained as a business chat host). They have a son Chris and a very unusual dog named Snickers.
