Confused about the validity of search engine submision business site

I recently paid to join a search engine submision site. They claim to then submit my website to over 100,000 search engines, but I will have to wait 2 to 6 weeks for my site to be indexed and ranked. Then somewhere else I read that you dont have to submit your website to any search engine as the bots will automatically come along and index and rank your website.
